teenagers are probably the most drama-hungry creatures on the face of the Earth... It seems we can't get thru one week without hearing that this person said/did this... The best advice to them is probably try not to let it get to you... Those people will be a dim memory in a few years, so don't try to change who you are to suit them. You know the truth, you know who you are (sometimes...). True friends will always stand beside you, most of the people you call friend now are really just someone you know. How many are still gonna be a part of your daily life after high school?

Wonder what Andrew thought of the book since he is a teen and he has dealt with crap. If it's crap that can't be avoided and stuff you have to deal with, I just tell my teen to buckle down and DEAL and get through it. If it's crap that we can fix, then I tell my teen to come up with a plan to fix it. Finally if it's crap that an adult needs to intervene, well then I tell my teen to let me know about it so my husband and I can help.

When my kids were young and having a problem I would ask them what advice they would give to their best friend if that friend were having the same problem.
Then I would say "be your own best friend, and listen to your gut".
I also told them to look at problems as hurdles, everyone you can overcome does make you stronger.

Try to remember that whoever is giving you crap is probably dealing with crap of their own. In other words, they're projecting their crap onto you. Think teflon(tm c etc) and try to let it slide off you.
Well, not in those exact words...

I gave my daughter a journal to write down her feelings. Most of the little fights are fleeting, so writing it out helps because adding to the drama usually just prolongs the fight.

I told her that teenage years are some of the hardest anyone faces. But she needs to hold her head up and respect herself no matter what.

Well, for one thing, relax! Then, just pull yourself out of the situation, whatever it is. Leave it alone for a little while...and chances are, you won't care about it once you give it more thought. If you do, then...you deal with it, but with a little more patience and calmness.

Just to enjoy being young because all that anxiety that we put ourselves through those years are wasted instead of enjoyed.

Most of my advice involves motivation. One day, I told our teen exchange student that he could go for what he wanted (he was quite motivated), but that you had to ensure that you aren't stepping across that line from legal to illegal.
