One To Grow On Review and Giveaway!

Rowan is official, she is no longer an infant.
Now she is a toddler with a mind of her own and
tastes of her own and does what she wants to do
on her own schedule. If she doesn't like it, she
isn't going to play with it. If it doesn't taste
good, it gets spit out. If it bores her, now is
a good time for a nap. She still has her top ten
list but start looking for some changes. Gone are
the items that could simply catch her attention.
Now they need to interact with her. She needs to
be able to open and close and hug and kiss and
the noisier the better and the more bells, whistles
and lights, hey, the more the merrier is all she can
say. She does love books, its the page thing right
now for just flipping them is an adventure but I
can also follow the trend of toys that light up
and speak to her slowly starting to weed the less
intrusive versions out of the game. A toy that catches
her attention has to be explored, there is no doubt
about that. Rowan has also started to love some dolls
but that is a different story, today we are here to
talk about an item that has drug her and my 16 year
old son in and she is just fascinated with it. The big
shock to me was this is the first one of her toys my
son had to sit down and play with her for he was just
as hooked!

The Iplay Cash register! One To Grow On is a marvelous
store that offers a bevy of entertaining, educational and
creative products for young children. Everything from books
to trains and dolls and airplanes can be found and they are
careful to bring you only the best selections. A huge
one at that! When I first found out I was going to do a
review for a cash register I was a little nervous Rowan
was still to young for this. It is a cash register after
all and it was not that long ago when her own feet were
the most exciting thing she played with all day. I must
have forgotten over the last 15 or so years how fast
a baby changes from day to day. I know the toy is made
for children older then her but it was my experience
that a lot of toys that are intended for children that are
older should be judged on a case by case basis. Children
all grow at a different pace and I feel they have to rate
a toy at an age that is safe for the masses not just a certain
child. Take Lego's for instance. Andrew was building sets that
were for ages 8 and up from the time he was 3. He was just
a whiz at them and that kid only had to look at the box to
build the set and never needed the directions. Now I understand
why it was rated aged 8 and up, not all kids were skilled like that
and a lot might stick the Lego in their nose or eat it
but Andrew was an exception. Now if I were to have given
him a painting kit that was rated the same age he would
have done the walls and floor and himself I am sure, Lego's
were just his thing. In fact, I would hate to be a toy
company anymore with lawsuits galore for we have scared
them so bad that I am surprised every toy does not have an
open at your own risk label on the box. Any way, back to the
register and my fear Rowan would not know what to do with it.
Truthfully, she doesn't. She has no clue how to use it correctly
but that does not change the fact she loves it to death and
is learning how to use it. The register has so much to offer
a child and I was shocked at just how far they have came from
the little one Andrew had and the really old one I had. Did
I even have one? I remember something but nothing that made
an impression on me. This little guy has everything and is
perfect for growing into. They have little food items, one
in a round shape and the other in a square and a couple of
places to put them. Rowan is too young to pretend she is
shopping but making those shapes fit is a fun challenge she
is all about right now. The belt moves and oh my, that is
a hoot because she is burning her little brain trying to figure
out how to get to those items and why they move. The lights, the
sounds, the mini abacus all offer younger children tons of
things to keep them entertained and active and the fact she
hits a button and is rewarded with a noise or a sound is enough to
make her work all the harder to get another one. The display
doubles as a mirror so when she is not hitting the number
keys she can see her reflection and that is almost as exciting to
her as the register itself. It also has a scale where you can spin
an Apple on one side then flip it to a Tomato and when you press
down the sound effects are adorable and they even have the
"Boing" sound when you release. I would have thought fore sure
this toy would be above Rowans age level but after a week with it I
have came to the conclusion this is sooooooooo for her age level.
Sure she is not adding 1 plus 2 right now but the colors, the
sounds, the shapes but everything else is made for clumsy fingers
and curious little minds. This is a teaching tool if I have ever
seen one and perfect for a child just learning how to manipulate
objects and shapes and buttons for every part is the perfect size
and easy for her to grasp. Though she is in it for the instant
gratification right now I have to say I love the fact she is
being bombarded with numbers and colors and shapes and if she
understands or not she is learning these things through the
constant re-enforcement. Too advanced for Rowan? Hogwash, it
is just her cup of tea! I could not think of another Cash Register
on the market that would be better for children to make the
transition from Baby to toddler for this is going to grow right
along with her! I also can't wait to grab some other little grocery
items and a little shopping cart for her to make her store all official.
One of the little details they included with this register is
they have a store on the back and the check out on the front. SO from
one side she can shop and the other pay. Isn't that too cute? A
double duty toy! I think it is pretty easy to tell the My First Cash
Register is a big hit here but I have a feeling most of the items
they carry at One To Grow On would be!

I love that they have all your classic toys in stock and
also offer new selections that are on the cutting edge. As I went
through the pages upon pages of toys and books I came to the
conclusion that they seek out the best of the best and that is
what they bring you. A wooden Train set never goes out of fashion
and the bring you the best ones they can find. Plush animals that
are perfect for any age and crib toys I have either never seen before
they are that unique or I remember as a favorite from long ago.
There is no middle ground or filler product anywhere, every item I
saw was carefully selected so you can rest assured you are bringing
your children not only the best quality toys for them but the most
entertaining. I adore the fact they offer cooking items for you guys
know how I feel about getting kids in the kitchen and I have
searched high and low for musical instruments for young children
and could never find just what I was looking for to now. One
to Grow on has done a lot more then impress me they have
become one of my favorite toy stores. They even have a Vet Set
so instead of pretending you are a Doctor you can be a Vet and
I love that for Rowan and the Pooch spend so much time
together it is just perfect for our house. Last of all you guys are
going to be shocked when you see just how reasonable their
prices are. I about fell over. Toys I had on my check list to
get for Rowans First birthday I found at some really great prices!
Even better, they have this great little section at the site where
they have free games, trivia and all sorts of other fun things for
your kids to do! Check it out, it is called Critter Corner!
The only complaint I have is my list for her birthday went from
one page to 4 after I saw everything they had at the store!
I just couldn't help myself they grew on me!

One To Grow On was kind enough to offer one of my readers
an Iplay My First Cash Register too! Your kids are going to love
it! To enter just head over to the site and take a look around then

Toddler Virtue Tees Review and Giveaway!

What happened to manors? What happened to courtesy?
What happened to well behaved children who think of others
first and not just themselves? I have truly became dumb
founded over the years with some of the behaviors I have seen
and wonder what is going on anymore! Let me give you an
example. A few years ago it was a nice summer day and I
heard children yelling out front. I rushed to see what the
Hoopla was and found my son and an older girl from down the
street pretty much in a name calling match and angry with
each other. I demanded to know what was going on and
Andrew knows better then to not spill the whole truth and
told me. He thought she was being rude and he didn't like it
so he said some mean things to her and in turn she said some
back and it blew up from there. Andrew told me what he said
and I was really angry for he made fun of the fact this was her
second time in the 8th grade and though right on the side walk
was not the time or the place to speak to him I right away
demanded he apologize and mean it. He did, looked beaten
and knew more to this would be dealt with once we got home.
I then turned to the girl ( 13 at the time) and said now it is
your turn to apologize, I even left out the mean it part for though
I decided Andrew started it with teasing her if she was rude or
not in the first place he was the one who resorted to an insult
but she had said some very nasty ones as well and way more then
Andrew said, insults in turn. I thought she was just thinking how to
word her apology when she didn't say anything and when I
realized none was coming for she started with more insults
I once again told her to apologize and thought they could shake
hands and end this. I stood with my Chin on the ground when
she looked me square in the eye and told me she was doing
no such thing for she meant everything she said and I need to
stay out of it before she told me what she thought of me!
SHOCK!
A 13 year old girl thought it was appropriate to speak to an
adult like that. My son would be buried in the back yard up to
his neck for a month had he spoken to me like that. If he
spoke to a stranger, why he might just disappear all together.

Since Andrew was a baby I have made sure to
instill virtues and morals and we do these things together.
You start with a simple Please and Thank You and go on from
there. I explained name calling and told him all about certain
words and how they can hurt. How to help his neighbor and
treat people how you would like to be treated and my
Grandmothers favorite, "If you do not have something nice
to say, do not say anything at all!" We may not be rich or
have extra money anymore but there is more to Charity then
just giving money and I have taught him that as well. He is
always helping other people in the neighborhood and is
the first to volunteer to help when it is needed. He is Thankful
for what he has and knows better then to ask for more and
has always been brave and understanding. These are not things
your children learn at school. They learn them at home and
you need to lead by example. Now come on, kids have
their moments but they need to learn how to rectify their own
mistakes and that was why I wanted him to apologize, to
fix his own cruelty at making a comment he should not have
said in the first place. I will not make an excuse for him and
he knows it and my son has only gotten in serious trouble
twice in his life. Once he told someone he hated them
and we had a very long talk about how strong the word hate is
and how he is way to young to even come close to having
a feeling that strong, even if he was talking about Liver.
The other time was he called a boy stupid and again, the
talk. He was informed no person is stupid and just because
he knows more about one subject does not mean another person
does not know more about another. He needed to understand
everyone learns at a different pace and respect a persons
difference and learn that differences are what make the
world an exciting place to live in. Every day parents need to
work on these things and yes, set backs happen, but never
give up for our children are our future and I get nervous when
I see how some of our future stars act.

I got a chance to do a review for I site I found delightful.
It is a super way to teach your kids virtues and manors and
how to lead a good life and follow a good road. Children live
what they learn and learn what they see and Virtue Tees
has everything good you would want your child to know on
some really superb quality tees. The have shirts for Patience,
Gratitude, Courage, Tolerance and Kindness. Who wouldn't
want those actions to be a part of their child's life? Each shirt
is printed on 100% cotton, low gauge and loose knit. Comfy
and great material! They are unique in that they are taped
shoulder to shoulder with an exposed grey chain stitching on
each collar but the message is the best part! I think they would
be great for a Birthday Party Favor where all the kids can see
what each other is wearing and even make a game out of it
if they can show an example but the heart of the manor is
these shirts display what we all hope our kids grow up
demonstrating in their daily manorisms and become an
important part of their personality traits! Rowan looked cute
as a button in her Tee and I plan to have her wear it often
and as soon as she understands we will talk about what
it means. Teach your children young! They will always
remember. Virtues should be a part of every child's life
if you are religious or not these represent simple human
kindness and values and not a person in the world no matter
Religious background, race or creed could fault that! I
plan on collecting them all for not only are they a great
comfortable shirt for everyday wear, it can't hurt to have
a little extra help in keeping my child sweet! Look for them
on my Valentines Day gift guide as well, for they are a great
gift for any child and what is better to celebrate a day of
love then virtues that come straight from the heart?

Toddler Virtue Tees is going to give on of their shirts to
a reader as well! To enter just head over to the site and take
a look around then come back here and post what you liked
in a comment. The contest will start tonight and run to midnight
on March 4th.
USA and 18 and older can enter daily and the winner
will be contacted by email and have 72 hours to
contact me with their mailing information. As always

Rebinder Review and Giveaway

I told you guys last week how I write all the time and
I am always going through pens and trying to find one
that does not kill my hand by the end of the day. Well,
not only do I go through pens like crazy I also go through
paper. Mass amounts for like I said before, I write everything
down. I have at least 4 large post it pads on my desk, a couple
of notebooks and some blank sheets too. In my purse I have
a smaller notebook and scattered through out the house
there are several more. I know it is a lot of paper and to
make things worse I forget what notebook I wrote a certain
list in and end up re-writing it and going through even more
paper with my never ending scribbling. I try to be Earth
friendly and toss everything I don't need in the recycling
bin, I am very careful about magazines making it there
for I have such a hard time throwing out notes and feel so
bad about my squandering of paper that I have deceived
myself into thinking if I recycle every single magazine I
can I am making up for all of that. I also grab all of Andy's spiral
notebooks at the end of the school year and use what paper
is left in those for other wise it will just end up ruined in his
room. Most likely with one of my favorite towels shoved in a
small damp gooey space. But my meager efforts do not change
the sheer volume or the amount of Junk Mail I get alone from
doing the blog and speaking to so many companies. This
year I made sure my Christmas items were from green companies
but I still needed something to help with my paper problem.
Somehow I think I will sleep a little better knowing I have not
personally destroyed a forest or two.

I went to the office supply store to purchase even
more paper and made a point to ask if they had any products
that were green or made out of recycled items. I got a sales
pitch for like most large places now they have their own
signature items and that was what I was being referred to.
No where in the guys pre-rehearsed spiel did I hear the
words earth friendly or recycled and I started to zone out
and go over my grocery list in my head while he pretty much
rambled on to himself. What seemed like a lifetime later I
was released with directions to the plastic covered farthest
thing from green section of their own goods. With a heavy
sigh I was about ready to leave when a man tapped me on
the shoulder. I almost did my Renee Russo Lethal Weapon
move on him ( guys, don't tap girls. If we don't know you we
might go Linda Blair on you!) but then realized I was close to
a foot taller them him and smiled instead.
"Psst, don't buy here. They are overpriced and don't
really have what you were asking that young man for!"
" I saw that. Thank you!"
"Go on-line. Site called rebinder. That's the ticket."
He grabbed a card out of his wallet and jotted down the
name. "You will like it."and "Poof", he was gone.
Okay, the guy didn't go "Poof" but I felt like I was just in
an episode of Mission Imposable and couldn't help but to
hold the card to my ear and see if it was ticking and going
to self destruct in 3 seconds. It didn't and I went home and
brought up the site. Now my first look didn't go to well. It
looked kinda boring. Remember me, fashion Diva? I saw
the little recycle symbol in the one corner and then looked
over and saw another box that says Greenhouse Gas Saved,
Pounds saved by our customers. Now that was a big number.
A really big number. I decided to give them a chance and
started scrolling through the pages. Let me tell you the
next two things I noticed right before I book marked the site
for it is a new gem for me now. Well the very first thing
I noticed is they have everything. I mean every thing!
Anything you would need in School or an office. Right
down to CD cases and Envelopes, business cards and labels.
Why they even have pens! I didn't even know you can recycle
a pen. You can, and when you are done with theirs you can
even send them back and they will do it again. How cool is
that? The next thing I noticed was the price. This has got
to be one of the most inexpensive places I have ever seen.
I had just left a huge office store and you think with the bulk
amounts they have to buy items in that it would reflect in the
price. It doesn't and Rebinder's prices put theirs to shame.

Do you know how much money I spend every August on Andrews
school supplies? We are talking close to a hundred bucks
every year and then like clock work he comes home
after the first day and tell me he still needs this and that
and a Gym Lock. ( I swear Gremlins take his old one every
summer) and then I spend 20 bucks more. I did some
figuring here and found out I can get all of Andrews stuff
for $40.00 and that includes extra items to spare.Even
better, instead of picking up this and picking up that
they have ready made kits for School supplies. Talk about
one stop shopping,. I can have one click shopping and never
have to leave the house. Did you know I would also be
Earth friendly? Almost forgot about that for a second the
prices mesmerized me. The only thing that I was concerned
about was the price. I had a theory that all things good for
you or the planet cost more. I mean think about it.
Organic Food, more.
Recycled Stationary, more.
Organic clothing, more.
These guy not only did not cost more a lot of the
items were even less expensive then the bad for the planet
junk. All I kept thinking was what was the catch? I shot them
an email and asked and they offered to send some for review
so I could make up my mind first hand. What they sent me was
the school supply kit and this box was packed with stuff. When
you read the list you do not picture how much it is, the numbers
for quantity mean little to you are looking right at them. I had to
act fast and grab some of the notebooks for I knew as soon as
Andrew walked in the door it was going to disappear and I must
say I was impressed. They paper is thick and not that thin
dollar store stuff I buy for around the house. You guys understand
what I am talking about, the paper that tears the minute you
put a pen to it. No way was this going to tear and I don't know
if it is the way they process it or what but it is soft. I know this
is a silly thing to bring up and not at all relevant but I don't think
it is possible to get a paper cut with this. I doubt even they
thought of this but you know my mind works on a different level
then a normal person and I couldn't stop fixating on how soft it
was. I even made Andy stand still still so I could try and see if
he would get a paper cut. He didn't, stand still I mean, but I
am pretty sure none the less. Okay, now that my Prozac has
kicked in I will tell you more about the paper products
them self. Not only was the Paper soft but everything that was
supposed to be rugged was very much so too! I was very impressed
with the binders for I don't even think beast boy could wreck these
like he does the ones I have bought in the past and I think
these puppies have a chance of making the whole school
year not just September. AND if they didn't they even send
replacement covers. Isn't that a neat idea? Even the pens
write great and that one shocked me too for if you buy them
in bulk like I plan too they break down to only 46 cents a pen.
Before these the pens I had been buying either cost a lot when
you broke it down or I would get the really cheap ones for like
4 bucks for 6 and (39 cents) that last about 2 minutes before
you are telling your children Mommy is sorry she knows she is
not supposed to say bad words! I have been writing with one
of these for three days ( real time for a normal person would
be like 3 months) and it is still working fine. The only other thing
that I thought I might have an issue with it the fact they are
plain brown. I had a sneaking suspicion Andrew might not
like them for there was nothing on the cover but then today
I noticed he had some stickers and drew some stuff on one and
asked him and he pretty much laughed at me and told me
he was over the whole theme stuff about 10 years ago
and if I really thought about it I was the one at the Store
every August going, "Look Andrew, Race cars!" and he would
just shrug and go cool. Who woulda thunk it,. all these years
and I have been buying what I thought was neat and he could
have cared less!

So lets go over this real fast:
1. They have everything
2. Super reasonable
3. Durable
4. Have kits to make your school shopping super fast so
you can go back to looking at shoes.
Now what was it I came here in the first place for? Oh, yeah!
5. They are Green and help save our Planet!
Now that is a great list! Even better Re-binder is going to
give one of these same kits to a reader. To enter just head
over to the site and take a look around them come back here
and tell me what item you would use the most! The contest
will start tonight and run to Midnight on February 27th.

will be contacted by email and have 72 hours to
contact me with their mailing information. As always

Think Fun Games Review and Giveaway

Are you guys getting tired of listening to me ramble on
about family game night? I sure hope not for it is important
and a great way to stay close and have some fun in the process.
I know I talk about it all the time but I have found some games
I just have to share with you. The Company responsible for this
next batch of games is called Think Fun and that is so what
they do for we had a blast with the games they send and I have
to take a pause for the cause right now and let you guys know
that not only was their products good they were a great company
to work with on the review. You guys know how I feel about
customer service and how it has been slipping away in today's
dog eat dog world and how I like to point out those companies
that hold on to old fashion values and offer not only a great
product but a fantastic overall experience. This is one of those
places and I will be adding them to my top ten list. Rachel, my
contact with the company was just fantastic to work with and
was really concerned that you guys enjoy the giveaway as well.
They offer the personalized experience you never see anymore
complete with a hand written letter in the package I was sent
for review. No pre-stamped letter with a scrawl at the bottom
but the real deal. When you have questions you get an almost
instant response and they are right on the ball! Tops Ten Company
for sure and I am now a devoted customer but I know you guys
are dieing to know more about the games!

The first game we got to review was 36 cube and it was
too cool. It is a big ol' square with lots of little squares and
I would have to describe it as a stacking puzzle game. It is a
single player game but we used it as more of a competition
to see who could do it better and faster and got a little competitive
with it. The goal of the game is goal is to place the 36 colored towers
onto the puzzle base following two simple rules: there must be
one and only one of each colored tower in each row and column,
and the towers must fit in the base to form a perfect cube shape
with all towers at the same height. It sounds easy but it isn't!
You need a strategy and foresight and patience to put your
plan into action. A rushed moved might very easily end up
being a dead end! The game is for ages 8 and up but like I
said it can get tuff and for the younger kids playing I would
have to say it is a great way for them to learn sequencing and
how to think ahead and for adults it is a true test of skill.
Andrew, who thinks he is lord of all games played for hours
for he couldn't understand why he got stuck when he got
stuck and was determined to show the game who was boss!
Let me think about the benefits of this game for Andrew, hum,
hours of peace and quiet, WHAT A GAME!! I loved it too and
from my Grandfather I learned that Solitaire is a great way to
pass the time and always have decks of card around the
house, well, now that I gave this a whirl I have something new
to do when I am waiting on a load of Laundry or dinner to
finish. The Packaging it comes in is perfect for keeping it
organized and I have it sitting on the kitchen table right now
for it never even made it to the game shelf for we are just
using it too much!

The next game they sent was Smart Mouth and the
is a true family game and cracked me up for those silly teens
who think they know everything stumble all over themselves
in a crazy attempt to beat the rest of us. Slow down Jr. sometimes
you need to think before you blurb! How this game works is
players slide the Letter Getter device forward and back to reveal
two lettered tiles. The first player to spot and shout out a word
of at least five letters, beginning with the first letter tile and
ending with the second letter tile , receives those two tiles.
Player with the most tiles at the end wins. You better bring a
dictionary to the table because you kids are going to come
up with words you have never heard before and swear to you
they are real. Decide before hand if slang counts for we had
some pretty lengthy debates on real words vrs slang and I
was told I was out of touch more then once. Now we all know
I have my fingers on the pulse of society so I won! I have
no idea what all the Booing was about for those kids are
just jealous of my superior intellect and verbal skills! Even
Puzzle boy John took a backseat to me! This game is a blast
for all and is also a good way to help your kids with their own
verbal skills and spelling for a lot of the stuff they came up
with ended with the question, Huh? Where did you come up
with that? Spell it! There is not a doubt in my mind that this
one will be drug out at just about every family game night
and hang around for years to come. Even Rowan can join us
when she has a little larger vocabulary that includes more then
baa baa daaa doo!

The last game they sent holds a special place to us. I have
told you Andrew spend most of his early years in special educating
classes for his ADHD. Well I am not sure if you are aware of this
but a lot of kids in special education have a hard time learning
the normal way and need what teachers call Tactile re-enforcements
and Rush Hour was one of the things they used in my sons
class. The game has been around a while and for good reason,
it is a really good game and also works fantastic for kids that
have a hard time learning sequencing and patterns in the
same old boring way as other kids. If you child is struggling
do yourself a favor and pick this up. You can also grab it
if you just want to have fun. When we opened the box and
Andrew saw this he squealed like a little kid and ran off with
it as fast as he could. I had to chase him down to see what
he took off for I needed to know what we were reviewing. He
started playing this game in second and third grade and as
you can see he has nothing but found memories of it!
It is the simplest game to play and one of the hardest to win
and there are so many variations you will never get bored.
Players set up the game board according to pictures of traffic
jams displayed on different challenge cards, then slide blocking
cars and trucks out of the way to create a path of escape
through the congestion. This game has won multiple awards
and from personal experience and years of knowing this
game I can say with absolute certainty that is a justly deserved.
Like I told you, even schools use this and kids never think of
it as a teaching device, just plain old fun. I wish I could tell you
it is on our game shelf of family favorites but it is not. It is
in Andrews room and for the life of my I can't convince him it
would be just as safe on the shelf. He is determined to never
let this game out of his sight for his last copy got lost when we
moved in here years ago and though was on a list of things
to replace like so many things it got lost in the shuffle and
now that he has it back he has made it clear it is his and the
rest of us can borrow it under his watchful eye. How is that
for a glowing recommendation? It doesn't get much better! This
boy has video game systems and computer games all over the
house but Rush Hour sits on the corner of his bed and I am
sure there is some sort of booby trap set to ensnare anyone who
comes within three feet of it!
