Because I Said So!!! Mom Knows Best!

Spring Cleaning is here! Yes, that is right, it is
HERE!! Oh, how I long for a life where I could just
hire someone to come in and do it for me but alas,
no lottery winnings have been in my Tarot Cards so
I am stuck cleaning myself. I am also knee deep into
Rowan care and everything that goes along with that
as well. Her little bootie cleaning doesn't just wait for
Spring, this needs constant cleaning. Then the house
needs tending too, dishes and windows and counters
oh, my. With all this cleaning I could fill a landfill with
paper products and the chemical run off in my sewers
alone would be enough to make our whole neighborhood
glow in the dark. It seems like I have a whole list of
problems here, for I need to find a dump truck full of
cleaning products AND Baby items and make them
powerful AND gentle AND they all have to be good for
the planet for with as much going on as I have I need
to take a little extra care, taking short cuts just makes
more waste and I do more then my share of contributing
to clutter as it is. The odds of finding everything I need
at one places are next to ZIL for who does all that and
makes it affordable? Who makes Laundry and Cleaning
items and the Baby and products I need and makes them
specifically in a fashion that doesn't knock a few forests
down and keeps to the guidelines of Green? Not only is
it a daunting task but I thought it would be next
to imposable. Then I found Seventh Generation. That is a
nation everyone can be proud to join!

Seventh Generation is a company that sees that the
common person has two parts to the world. The big
one around us and the one we surround ourselves in
on a daily basis. Both are important and both need
tending to and people are running around so fast now
a days they have a hard time keeping up with either so
they made it their mission to help us on our path. I was
looking through their product list and the impression I got
was one day a Mom sat down and said just what do I
need on a daily basis. She them compiled a check list
of household and personal hygiene products that her and
her family both use and sat back in amazement at how
much it really was. I can imagine this "Green" Mom
realizing just what an impact her "must have" list makes
on the planet everyday and this person decided to see
if there was a way to make these items without ruining
the big world around us. Now I don't know if my
Mom is real or not but when I looked at their product
list that was the vibe I got for what Seventh Generation makes
is just what I use on a daily basis. All of it. Every last
item in their arsenal is something I have to keep in my
home to make it run smoothly and clean and keep my
family comfortable. The fact it is also Earth Friendly was
a big plus for even though I care about our planet it
has always been super hard for me to find items that
are green and still do an effective job. Most of the
items I have tried that are for cleaning and green I ended
up going back to an old stand after wards to do the job
right. The Green ones just were not cutting it. Would
Seventh Generation be the same? I did a product review to
see and the items I tested focused on Rowans world
but they are products that effect us all.
Their Baby items would be the best gage for
me to get an idea of how effective they are for face
it, this is where we take the most care in our lives
to provide a clean and sanitary environment. Nobody cuts
corners with baby involved and this is also the part of
our lives where we accumulate the most waste products for
Baby creates a lot. If a baby wipe does not clean babies
bootie good enough a Mom could care less how bad
another brand is for the planet she will think nothing of
using it to assure her child is clean. If a diaper leaks
she is going to trash it and get a brand that keeps her
child dry even if it does knock down a small forest with
every change of the bootie! If that laundry detergent
sends back clothes that looks like my son beat them
on a rock instead of send through the wash I am going
to use the chemicals to make sure it never looks like
that again. It is a fact of life, we do what is best for
our baby first and worry about its impact later. That
doesn't make us bad people just good Mom's. Now
if I can find a product that covers both things Bravo!
But if not I am going for the chemicals and extra waste
for Rowan comes first. I also know if Seventh Generation can
make me happy in the baby department, an area where
every female is the most fickle, then every other cleaning
and paper product they make has to be just as good!
I was sent a complete set of items for Rowan, Diapers,
Wipes, Paper Towel and Detergent and more and I have
to say I was a little nervous. This is Rowan and this
isn't a toy I am testing these are items that will touch
her skin and as much as I love my dog I would much
rather shave her bald and slap a Diaper on her Bootie
then to experiment on the Baby so I read a bunch of
reviews myself before I even took the chance of using
any of their items on that little girl. Not a single bad
word could be found. Next I read some in depth details
of how their items were made. I NEED to be sure here,
other wise the Pups fur will grow back. What I found is
these guys, unlike some of the other brands I have
used, did not get rid of anything in their products
that are effective in cleaning they just made sure to
bring you all the natural forms and cut the fillers and
junk we don't need. We are back to the basics before
we started going all hap-hazard with our products and
tossing in a little of this and a lot of that, items we
don't really need. Things snowballed in the cleaning world
and one place would add something to their laundry
detergent and then realize UT, oh, that takes away from
this aspect so they needed to add something else to
fix that and so on and so forth. The end result was a
finished product that has 45 million ingredients we don't
really need. Seventh Generation went back to square one and
started fresh and only kept the good stuff we needed
in the first place. Let's not forget, when the first place
was first around all we had was natural items to work
with so that is what they used. Better for us, WAY better
for baby and better for the planet all around. So I
was now comfortable in the fact they made a product
people love and use ingredients that will not hurt my
little girl so I gave them a whirl for the real test is
will they work for me.
WORK" Hallelujah! I have never, ever, used any
product in my whole life that is Green anything that
worked better. In fact these guys blow away most of
the things I use that are not green. The Wipes, lets
start with the wipes. I hate gross and lets be real a
minute here, changing a baby's diaper is gross when,
well, you know. Rowan has some doozies too. I
can't stand to get my fingers in it and therefor go
through a lot of wipes and though I look for thicker ones
that work well I can't ever find them and 7th Generation
has wipes that are thick enough and just moist enough
to clear her up without me using a half of box each
time. I loved them and now I want to talk about the
Diapers themselves. When Andrew was a baby I
used cloth and I just don't have the time right now.
When I did use a disposable with him I really remember
Pampers and Huggies being top of the line and got
those for Rowan and have been having a fit. They leak,
they fill too fast and I have found cheap brands that
work way better. I was disgusted with them and when
these came I gave them a whirl and was so happy
the first night I did not have to wake that baby at
2 am and change her for they kept her dry all night
long. I was in super shock there! These are the best,
green or not, Diapers I have used since Rowan has
been home and I am doing a Jig every morning when
I don't have to change her sheets and everything she
slept with from a nasty leak once again. Now, dry
as can be. If I stopped the review right now I would
be in their debt for you have no idea how happy I am
with this fact alone! After that I did the Baby's
laundry detergent and this stuff is awesome too! I
even think it would work on my sons items and that
is saying something huge. I love the way it left all
of her items smelling fresh as well as being super
clean and no fading at all. I am really bad about
pre-treating stains and because of that a lot of my
items end up per-mi stained and I was in complete shock
when some stains I had long ago given up on disappeared.
Now that was a shocker! Baby stuff! WOW! I am
now a member of the Seventh Generation, send me my
membership card!

I also loved their other items and their paper
towels the most. I go through a lot and use them
for ever thing and these were super absorbent and
I only went through about half of what I normally
go through and that alone spoke volumes to me
and really made my day for the money I can save
right there will be enormous.Seventh Generation in general
just produces a great product all around and is just
what a Mom ordered for Spring cleaning and day to
day too. With kids or without, you are keeping your
home as clean as can be and leaving the least impact
on the world around you and saving it for your kids.

Hey there, while you are here don't forget to enter

Rowan is becoming quiet the challenge at
meal time. Everyday she is becoming more and
more of a little person and less of a Baby and
she wanted the world to know it. From Day one
I had a hard time with Baby food for unlike my
son who would eat anything, she is picky. I started
out feeding her Oatmeal and Rice Cereal that you
buy and has Applesauce or another fruit mixed in
and she was okay with that. Just okay, the first
bite or two she would make the face. You know the
face. The one when I baby looks at you and you know
she is thinking, "What did you just put in my mouth?"
face. After a couple of bites coaxed in though she will
eat the rest no problem. Now when it was time to
move on to other foods the problems started. I started
with Veggies like you are supposed to but I couldn't not find
one she liked. Not even Sweet Potato's and I thought every
baby in the free world loved those. Rowan, eh, not so much.
I skipped fruit for I was afraid she would like that and go
nuts for it and went to meats instead. I was worried. Andrew
ate anything but Johns Daughter Rachel will not eat anything
and here she is 12 and her entire diet consists of Ramon Noodles,
Cereal and Mac and Cheese. I did not want those issues with
Rowan so I held off on the fruits to I could get her to eat other
stuff first. I started with Chicken because again, that is a food
almost every child likes. No ick face this time. It sat in her mouth
and sat in her mouth and she glared at me and glared at me and
then at last she opened her mouth and let it simply fall out. No
dice on the chicken. Or Beef, or Turkey or Ham. Nada! I have a
fussy baby! Oh JOY!

Well through trial and error I found a few foods I could get her
to eat and I don't know how many I ended up tossing out. One
thing I did find is if I make her feel like she is part of the
feeding process and offer her a spoon she will eat more items I
offer her. The problem with that is she wants to have the bowl
right in front of her and while she is messing with her spoon I
can sneak in several bites but it ends up being such a mess for
when she is not chewing she is reaching and struggling to get the bowl.
Now of coarse, being so picky, she does love all fruits and
there I have no problems but even with the spoon I had problems
with Veggies and meats. When I got the chance to do a review
for Ella's Kitchens I pretty much was at my wits end and thought
why not, things can't get worse. They came in pouches and I thought
that was kinda neat. I didn't have to worry about the top
popping and the food being fresh for they were sealed with
a twist on plastic lid that when you turned it cracked open so you
know you are the first person to open it. With those Jars I had
such a hard time telling if they were popped or not for the
difference is so slight I could never tell. I was also taken back
by the fact that Rowan was impressed with the packaging. She
likes things that she can touch and handle and like I told you
she really wants to be apart of the whole meal thing and
"Help" but her help was so messy. With the Ella's she seemed
really interested in the fact I could squeeze it out into a bowl right
in front of her and then put the top on and instead of her holding
a spoon she insists on dipping into the bowl and getting all
over I gave her the package with the top on and she was
perfectly content holding that and trying to find her way in.
As she was obsessed with the pack I shoveled the whole
bowl in and not once did I have to stop and trick her to take
a bite or stop and clean up the mess from the bowl that she
once again dumped or play the Airplane game she pretty much
ignores. Now I thought, "hey, this is pretty great," but also knew
this wouldn't last forever. I might get a couple of meals out of
this Little trick but she would be bored soon enough and want
the spoon back. Well I went through every thing they sent and
she is still happy just holding on to the pouch. BUT what I
found out is I don't think the pouch is what is keeping
her hooked. Yeah, it is kinda fun and makes noise and she
can bend it all over and the top turns and clicks but she pauses
more and more and waits for her bite. She really likes it. I found
a food she likes enough to actually wait for a bite. I discovered
that by stopping mid way through her lunch to run and grab a
cup of Coffee. Normally Rowan could care less if I took a nap
during meal time for she isn't interested in the food at all, just
the playing in messy apple sauce and pears and if that is in
front of her I can read a book for a half hour and not feed her
a drop and she would never notice. With Ella's she did. I set
the bowl on the table and she was messing around with her little
bitty books she plays with while she eats. She seemed fine and
had already ate half the bowl so no biggie, I took my time to grab
coffee. I had not even got my Sugar in the cup with the "ehhhhs"
started. Slowly at first but by the time I got the cream in she was
full force pounding the high chair and the "eehhs" were now,
"EEHHHHHHHHHH, EHHHHHHHHHHHHH EHHHHHH!"
pound, pound!
"EHHHHHHHHH, EHHHHHHHHHH, EHHHHHHHHHHH."
I thought this meant she was done and bored and went to
grab her out of the high chair and that's when the real crying
began. She didn't want out, she wasn't bored, she wanted
another bite. Now that was a first! I was more then happy to
oblige for other then the Bread Sticks from the Pizza I dipped
in sauce for her she has never shown any interest in what she
was eating she just did it as an after thought to playing in
her high chair. Food she really likes? Wow, what a concept.
The next day I had to see if it really was true. I wanted to
know if she just asociated the food with the pouch she liked
to play with or she really liked the food itself. I put the food
into the bowl before I even brought her to the high chair. I sat
her down and made sure there was no little pouches for her to
play with, no extra spoon to keep her busy and no cracker or
other items she could feed herself when she was bored. The
only thing on her tray was her sippy cup and her bitty books.
I went to offer her a bite and fully expected her to fuss as
always until I brought something to the high chair to distract her
but she didn't, she opened up. Okay, that was luck for she is
just over 7 months and has no idea what is in the bowl and
if she does have a brand preference she wouldn't know it was that
brand to she tasted it. So I got lucky and she took a bite. Then
another and another and more and more to the bowl was just
about gone. She didn't even go for the bitty books to close to
the end when she was getting full. Now I was impressed for it
did mean she actually liked Ella's Kitchen baby foods on their
own and not just because eating them meant she had a cool pouch
to play with. I was also thank full to Ella's for that allowed me
that chance to get her to settle down enough and enjoy meal
time and she is even eating other foods better now too. Instead
of wearing her Yogurt she eats it. Same thing with breakfast cereal
and everything else I have tried to give her since that day. Now she
still liked to feed herself finger food but when it comes to food
that she needs a spoon for she is now fine with me doing all
the lifting and her doing all the chewing.
Now Rowan may love the food but what I love is what
is in it. You know those Veggies I had such a hard time getting
her to eat? Well not anymore. Ella's has veggies but in such neat
combos as Broccoli, Pears and Pea's or Carrots, Apples and Parsnips.
They are awesome at taking a veggie and mixing it with a fruit that
tastes like they were meant to be served together all the time. I am
confidant that Rowan will be eating those Veggies on their own soon
for now that she has learned to enjoy the taste the battle part is
out of the way for with most foods if you get a child to try it
they will like it. They are also the first Baby food company I
have ever seen that offers Strawberry's as a selection. That is
so cool for we love Strawberry's here! Ella's also has Smoothies.
Now that is even cooler! What I like about them is the pouch
is smaller and just the right size and I was a lazy Mom and let
Rowan try them right out of the pouch and she so loves that. She
thinks she is all big and able to feed herself and had the biggest
blast and though I know I was lazy and should have put it
in a bowl or cup even that site of watching her have so much
fun eating it straight from the pouch made me crack up. She was
having a total blast and smoothies are supposed to be a fun
treat anyway and I feel better giving her that then the Gogert
I was giving her. Ella's has truly made meal time fun and more
enjoyable for both Rowan and me and I feel better knowing I
am finally able to pump in some good foods!

Things were so different when I was a kid. We
did all sorts of things that parents today
would be freaking out about. Life was more relaxed
and things were just so much more simple. You seldom
heard about crime on TV like you do now, never heard
about kids shooting other kids and could even walk to
the store all by yourself. Now I am not THAT old though
I was reading a blog last night where the lady said
I remember way back when this show was on TV and my
favorite and all I kept thinking was wow, she was a
teenager there and my son was in like the 3rd grade and
she feels old? She can't be more then 25-30 and I would
trade places any day. Any ways, when I started my child
hood things were like that, just happy go lucky in life.
Nobody wore seat belts and I remember being crammed into
the back of a Tiny Fiat convertible with my Moms best
friend son and both our Irish Setter and theirs and we
had the top down, didn't sit in a car seat and hey, I
don't even think we wore seat belts. One Summer I rode
the entire four and a half hour trip back from our Cottage
in the back of a pickup truck with other kids and
safety gear? PFFT, Please, we didn't need no stinken
safety gear. By the time I was 8 years old I rode my
bike miles and miles away from home on country roads and
busy highways and never even knew what a helmet was.
By ten I had my own boat and I did get in big trouble
with that once, I was gone about 5 hours and didn't tell
anyone I was going fishing. I wasn't in trouble for
not telling I was going, I wasn't in trouble for being
gone so long, I was not even in trouble for going off
by myself with a boy, what I was in trouble for was leaving
and not taking my Cousin Elizabeth with me who was visiting
for the day. She drove me nuts and the point was to
get away from her and first chance I got I ran for
the hills. Back in the city we not only talked to strangers
we introduced ourselves and sometimes our parents even encouraged
it. I really doubt girls sell their girl scout cookies today like
we did for we would just go off by ourselves and go door to door
knocking and asking complete strangers if they would like
to buy some. The only thing we had that even remotely resembled
safety equipment was some old life jackets up north that
were so old I doubt they would have even floated. I am
sure they were rotted on the inside from spending a
couple of decades in the garage up north. Now that was when
I started my childhood. By age 12 the Oakland county Child Killer
was all over the News and parents reeled in their kids leashes
and you either had to go every place in a group or not
leave the house at all. Parents started to treat kids different
and became protective and things like the seat belt laws were
put into action and car seats and in the next ten years
everything changed. By the time I was 20 it was a huge fine
if you didn't have your seat belt on and car seats had to
be inspected before you could leave the Hospital with 'your
baby and with Roller blades came things like Knee pads and
wrist guards and helmet's. In the years leading up to
my son's birth kids wore helmet's for everything, even riding a bike.


Now when I was young the only thing we did to our bikes
is to attach streamers and horns and bells and things in
the tires. Now a days you have a hard time finding all that
but what you can find is shelves and shelves of Pads and
helmet's and bike lights and loads of other safety gear. When
Andrew was young I had a hard time making him
wear a helmet for it was still in my head how unnecessary I
thought they were and he never used a light or pads but
since then I have really changed my views. Not so much
that I think kids are super delicate and will break for
hey, falling off your bike is a ritual we all go through
when learning and I was not worried about him falling off
and hurting himself. I didn't feel he needed a bike lite
to see better at dusk or night fall for he was close
to home and was not allowed to ride in the street with out
me. If he got a light then all it was used for was decoration
so he would look cool. Then around the time he turned 8 we
started riding our Bikes on long rides together and that
is when I got a little strict on him wearing safety
equipment and will continue to do so for Rowan. Again
though, and let me repeat that, it is not because of the kids
it is because of the adults that I fear for their safety.
When is the last time you went on a good long bike ride with
your kids? Andrew and I spent one Summer riding about 5 miles
a day and how the people in cars acted terrified me to
the point I took a lot of large steps backwards and before
that summer I did not mind if Andrew rode his bike in the
street right in front of the house or took his bike to the
park by himself. After that summer, no way in the world
would I let him do those things and he had a helmet and a
spare, knee pads, elbow pads and I would have out him in
shoulder pads and wrist guards had he let me. He had lights
in the front and back and reflective tape and a loud horn
for excuse me for saying but people drive like fools. During
the Summer at least 2 times a week someone would almost hit me.
Once I went over the hood of a car for the person did not stop
and I wiped out a dozen or so times that summer trying to
stop even though I know I had the right away way for it was
plain to see they would not. I don't know about where you live
but it is against the law in Michigan to block a sidewalk
when you are in a car and pulling out of a place or home.
People need to walk by or ride by and the people in cars
just don't care. They will pull out in front of you and cut
you off just to make sure they do not have to wait that extra
second waiting. Why not? They are in a car and you are not, what
are you going to do about it?I made Andrew ride behind me so if
something were to happen it would happen to me but one time
a lady was so anxious to get out of the parking lot she almost
hit Andrew and that time I went a little off my rocker. It
was a double driveway type deal and one side was for entering
and the other was for exit. While heading across one lady cut
us off so we had to hit the breaks and I was closest to her and
Andrew was behind me with his back tire sticking out into the
entry driveway a little.I was not worried about him for to
get in there was a light and it was red and the reason we were stuck
waiting was the lady who cut me off was waiting on the same light.
( see what I mean, this lady couldn't go anywhere but rather then
leave the sidewalk UN blocked for us she made she she was as far
up to the street as she could get so when the light turned green
see would already be 3 feet closer to her destination.) While we
were all waiting for the light to turn green another lady decided
she did not want to wait for the woman who was blocking our way
and was going to go out the In drive away. She cut over the curve to
pull into a driveway that was clearly one way and in doing so she came
about 3 inches from Andrew and did not even care. Then she had the
nerve to glare at us like how dare we ride a bike and get in
her way. I lost it and made Andrew pull his bike into the lot and got
off mine and headed to get her plate number yelling the whole way
about how rude she was and how many laws could she break here and
how close she came to hitting my child. She panicked and pulled the rest
of the way over the curve, ran the red light, cut into traffic and left.
I was in shock! Oh yeah, Helmets and lights and every type of protection
I could find I got right after that. I had lights put every few inches
on his bike and will do the same with Rowan. In fact, now that I
am finished with my long I am so crabby story, that is why I am
here today. I just did a review for a company called Planet Bike
that has lights for every occasion and some pretty darn neat ones too!


These guys have some bike lights I didn't Even know they made.
Big ones, little ones, flashing and blinking and Lions and Tigers
and Bears! OH, MY! Planet Bike knows lights, that is a fact.
No matter what type of bike you are looking to outfit they have a
light for you. I was sent 3 different ones for review and placed one
on Andrews bike, his low rider thing a ma jig for that was the only
one that did not have any lights or reflective gear on it. I tried to
wrap reflective tape on it but he threw a fit and didn't want me to
ruin the finish of a bike he swears is going to be a collectors item
and all the lights that were at K Mart when we went were ones
that had to be permanently installed. So no go, will ruin the value
there too. Since Planet Bike has all types of lights the one they
sent was easy to attach and remove and though it stays put just
perfect it does not have to be hooked up in a manor you can't remove
it. Awesome for before that I would not let him leave the complex
with it due to my own experiences with people in cars. I know it
bummed him out and he is not a little kid but if a person is
going to hit me I know they would hit him too! The ones we installed
on Rowans bike are removable too. Another thing that I loved is
they are smaller and since she has a little bike they didn't look
stupid on it. Now John was laughing as he put them on the bike
for even he thought I was being ridiculous putting lights on a Toddler
bike for how often will she be out at night but I reminded him
that someday we might go to the corner for Ice Cream and what
if it is dusk out or even night time then. The Sun goes down
pretty early in the fall here in Michigan and even if the temperature
is 70 degrees and perfect for a bike ride it might be dark at
7:30 and Andrew and I often walk down to Baskin Robbins for an
ice cream around that time. Her lights are a steady red in the
back so cars can see her and a white one in the front that works
two ways, it allows her to see what is ahead or you can turn it
to flash and alert cars or other people to your presence. All
the lights we got for review worked perfect and the install was
a cinch and even I could put them on without 42 pages of
directions. Also, 25% of the proceeds from the sale of any light
goes to Bycycle advocacy and you guys know how I love a
place that gives back.

The selection is amazing and to be honest with
you guys I never knew there were that many types of lights
out there and they did so many differant things and served so
many differant purposes. I thought we were pretty avid bike riders
here and never realized I knew so little about safety. The lights
I got and the reclective tape was all I thought I needed and
now I realize how woefully underpreparred I was. Planet Bike

Hey there, while you are here don't forget to enter

I hate my Kitchen. Not really the Kitchen but
rather what is in the cupboards and Drawers and
what isn't in them. What isn't in them is space
what is would be so much junk I can barely shut
a drawer or door. It was just bad to Rowan came
and now it is even going to get worse. Baby's have
their own everything and my cupboard was already
Jam packed before her with Dishes and Good Dishes,
Glasses and good ones and specialty drink ones.
Storage Bowls and Andrews collection of glasses and
mugs. Coffee cups and refillable convenience store
cups. Thermos, soup containers, condiment trays
and containers and more. The Drawers, even worse.
I have so many different kinds of Spatulas and
mixing spoons, measuring cups and lids that go to,
I don't know what. It is enough to drive a person
mad. I need to just takes the Drawers and the Cupboards
and dump everything and start over. Now I have
been adding Rowans items, her plates and bowls, her
silver wear and snack containers, Bottles and sippy
cups, I feel like it is never going to end. I need
help getting it organized, better yet I need items
that either do it all or take up less space. In
my search for those items I came across Guyot
Designs. These guys must have had some Cupboards and
drawers like mine to come up with the goods they
have!
I was browsing through their items and I
realized I could dump half the items in my
kitchen and replace it with only a handful of
their items. I was sent the squishy bowls for
review and I have to say, bowls are a huge space
taker in my dish cabinet. Not only do I have the
bowls that come with my dishes, the good and
the everyday, I also have plastic bowls for
Andy, snack bowls, cereal bowls and bowls for
Rowan. Each bowl is supposed to serve a different
purpose but the truth is it is just the same bowl
over and over again. I can't get rid of the plastic
no matter how much I want to for they are the ones
I use the most with the kids. One gets tossed in
the diaper bag, they get tossed in for lunches
and are always filled with snacks. Andrew is 16 and
I should be able to use the glass but every time
he does it comes back broken. They also cart them
out by the pool and it is defiantly not a good idea
to have glass out there no matter how old or safe
the person thinks they are for just break one and
it doesn't matter how much you think you clean up
the glass someone with their bare feet is going to
end up with a chunk in their foot. So the plastic
is here to stay and there is no getting around that
but Guyot Designs makes it a whole lot more easy
for instead of taking up almost two shelves in
the cupboard I can just stick them in a drawer
and because they all squish up they will fit. I will
still get the safety of plastic for their snacks
and well, heck, with the kids, eating in general
and I also get my space back! They are also
perfect for Rowan's diaper bag and Andrew and
Johns lunch bucket and even better, when we go
to State parks and lakes for the day I don't
have to carry around a couple of tote bags with
plastic bowls and silver wear. Now it can
all fit in one and leave me room to spare. They
also make a Squishy Bowl for Pets and that really
rocks for I bought these little paper ones for
when we hit the parks and they fall apart. The
big plastic container is way to bulky to carry
and what we were left with was to pour some
water into a cup for Boo and tilt the cup so
she could drink out of it. With Squishy bowls I
just toss it into the same tote as ours and
again, I still have room left! Boo can drink
without finding a puddle, I don't have to sit
there and hold a cup and nobody has to carry
her 80 dollar travel set around that seemed like
a great idea at the time. Duh, if I could only
take it back. Do you know how many Squishy bowls
I could have bought for 80 bucks? They also come
in all sorts of sizes and have me covered big
time!
Guyot Designs also carries the Utensils
for your home and travels in adult and children's
sizes and many other items such as the Gription
for adding a handle to your bottles, the Splash
Guard, the Tap Guard to protect your drinking
water with a portable filter and re-usable
bottles for your home. While we are on the
subject of bottles, and everyone has them
everywhere, Guyot Designs also has a favorite
item of mine that even though I just discovered
lately it is the best thing I have seen in the lines
of home preparedness for emergency and for travel and
something we should all have. We have lost power in
our Condo four times since I have lived here.
That is four times in 9 years and I am not talking
about a minor power outage and you are back up
and running in a couple of hours, I am talking
about the brown out around 4 or 5 years ago, we
were down for a week, one thunderstorm that had
us down for about 5 days, once the transformer blew
and again 5 days and the other time our fuse box went
kaboom and you guys have heard tell of my landlord and
we were without power that time for almost 6. After
the brownout though there were rumors of it happening
again so I went out and bought all sorts of emergency
gear such as candles and lanterns and a crank radio/TV
thing. I wanted to be prepared. Well the issue with being
prepared is to do so you have to buy all this "stuff"
and when you are already short on space it just adds
to the clutter. To keep it out of every day way I stashed
it and that makes it useless for if the power goes out,
unless the sun is at its brightest so I can find it, I will never
see it in the dark ( even with light it would be a challenge)
and we all know things do not happen when the conditions
are perfect. Guyot has this thing called a Fireflye that
with that I could toss out most of that other stuff, stash the
Fireflye in the kitchen drawer for they take up next to
nothing in the space department and not have to
worry about space at all or emergency's for the Fireflye
turns a bottle into a lantern with an LED light in the
cap. How cool is that? I dare not show my son for he loves
gadgets and this one is beyond cool and not just something
for messing around with it is super useful. It would also
be great for Camping, in the garage, one in the basement for
those dark corners. Hang it in my over stuffed closet so I
can find the shoes I am looking for an not run out and buy
a new pair. Okay, buy a new pair to match the light? I can
be reasonable!


Now I was tickled pink in my review of Guyot Designs
and their Squishy Bowls and I personally think they are
great for around the house and yards and day trips but
the Inventors and Owners meant for them to be used
outdoors and to help preserve the outdoors for on the

Hey there, while you are here don't forget to enter

Snap,crackle, sizzle and Pop! There is nothing
like the roaring flames of a fire to not only set
the mood but keep you warm, entertain your
guests and all around relax you. I remember some
of the best times in my life started on a cool morning
and my Grandfather stoking the fire to get it really
blazing so I could lay in front of it. Our fireplace then
was used for heat though we had another furnace as
well but I don't ever remember referring to the fireplace
as a practical item or a utility. It was always the breakfast
table to me for Grandpa would make me big bowl of
Oatmeal and I would sit on a pillow in front of the fireplace
and just enjoy the heat. Later, in the evening it was where
everyone gathered in front of to play cards or read for
we, like so many other family's, would position our furniture
around the Fireplace for it was always the key focal point
in any house. A fireplace is just one of those things that will
never go out of style.
To cement my theory I can ask you to look around
at half the homes on the block anymore. Almost everyone
I know has an outdoor fire pit somewhere in their
back yard where they gather with friends when the sun
goes down and kick off the day. I live in a two story condo
and the houses behind me in the subdivision are all one story
ranches and I can look out my daughters bedroom window and
count at least a dozen out there that have people at
them more nights then not. I can hear their laughter and
watch the kids running around in circles delighted
to be out just a "little bit" past their bed times
for its not that their parents don't care what
time they go to bed its more the fact they are to
relaxed to realize what time it is! Now when I was
little my Grandfather had a pole barn to store his
wood in and would cut it off his own land and
spent a zillion weekends to chop it all up. Acquiring
wood was a huge deal and I remember one time we were
at a family friends for a gathering and I noticed
that my Grandfather and all the Husbands and men
were missing and feeling like I could be missing out
on something too I went off in search of them.
I located all the men in the garage where they were
taking turns playing with "Mr. Ed's"new toy. A wood chopper.
The things men do! Now this toy cost thousands of dollars
and all it really was is a conveyor belt that ran a log
down it to a blade. Then Bam, chopped wood. It also took
up a third of his four car garage so you really can't
carry it in your pocket. Now they were enthralled and
even as a child I could not understand why.
"What's it for?"
"Chop-pen some wood there, little girl."
"why do you have it?"
"To save money and not have to pay for cord
after cord of wood."
"Did you get it free?"
"Nope, this here was an investment to be sure!"
"So a Chainsaw is cheaper?"
"yes, but that takes a lot of work!"
"Do people come and put those big logs on it for
you?"
I could tell he was getting a little mad at my questions.
"No there little girl. I go cut them down in my woods!"
"Just like a chain saw?"
"I told you this was less work!"
"Oh, why don't you just buy the wood already cut?"
"Too Expensive!"
"Isn't the cutter thing expensive?"
"But it will last forever!"
Lucky for me my Grandfather also saw the silliness
of a man buying an item like this for a home fireplace
and chimed in with, "Until it breaks!" and I had
the chance to flee. To this day though I still do not
see the logic in paying all the money for something he
will only use once or twice a year. Now these men had
the luxury to have a forest out their back door so
they could collect wood for their fireplaces whenever
they needed without worrying about things like storage
or carting wood from a store to your home or even
locating a place that sells wood to begin with. Now
with the popularity of Fire pits I have noticed you
can get firewood at your local gas station or
7-11 now a days but that didn't used to always be
the case. Years ago we would have to travel out to
the country and buy in bulk and store it or have it
delivered and once again store it, and if you were
really lucky you could find it at your local hardware
store and what, you guessed it, store it. Now it
comes in pre-cut packages that are wrapped and ready
to go without the hassle of storing it or getting
your car or home all covered with pieces of bark or
other items that fall off the wood.
Durastax is one of those brands and i got a chance
to do a review for them and I really liked how it
turned out. We have an issue around here with Rats
and since I live so close to Detroit they are big
city Rats, not cute little field mice and storing
wood is a major problem. You have to have it so
high off the ground and there can only be so much
and it has to be covered due to city ordnance to
keep this problem under control. This makes it next
to imposable to buy wood in bulk or even by the
cord for the only place to store it is in your
garage or if you do not have one like I don't in
your basement. What a pain. The problem I have ran
into is two fold:
1. finding a pre-packaged brand of wood I can afford
that does not cost and arm and a leg.
2. finding one that is easily available
3. easy to store
4. quality wood that is consistent each time. I don't
want to buy something and have it burn slow one night
and get the same amount and it be gone in an hour the
next.
5. A name brand I can trust
6. A wood that is easy to use and I do not have to preform
circus tricks to get it to light.
DuraFlame gave me the chance to review their Duraflame Stax.
A remarkable firewood that was supposed to be answer to all
my issues and more. Best of all I would not have to break a
sweat cutting it myself ( as if!), pay someone a small fortune
to deliver it and drive myself nuts trying to store it or
remortgage my house for a Log Splitter that will take up half
my yard and scare the dog. The Package came and the logs didn't
look very large. They looked really tidy and I thought no way
were these puppies going to give off any heat. These are show
logs. You know, the kind the perfection people toss in their
never used fireplace to keep up the appearance they use it.
I decided to try them in the fire pit for the directions said
you can use them their, your fireplace or even in wood stove.
The were made to look like split wood and the perfect size
for the fire pit. Best of all one of my pet peeves about the fire pit
is you do not have a lot of room to stack a bunch like you
can in a fireplace and it burns so fast you are always tossing
more wood into the fire, these were meant to burn with two
so it was ideal for the fire pit. Plus they burned forever and
so long in fact I never even used the 3rd log for I lit the
fire at 6pm and at midnight I had to put it out for I was
going to bed soon and they were still burning strong.I could
not believe that for I would have went through a cord or more
with regular wood. Now I was impressed. Plus, wanna see me get
floored more? It is cold here in Michigan and I didn't think
I would be out there long. IT IS COLD! Even with the fire pit
roaring it can not toss off enough heat to keep you toasty so
it may be fun to sit by the fire on a cold night it is also
well, COLD. I don't care if there were 12 logs in the pit,
shiver me timbers. You have to sit right up on it too feel any
heat for unlike the house with the fire pit there is tons
of places for the heat to go. Straight up into the wild blue
yonder is a big one, so you pretty much have to kiss the fire
to get some of that heat your way. With the Durastax it was
like fire to the power of ten! Can one wood burn hotter then
another? Not a rocket scientists but I got to tell you it
sure felt like it did and by a lot too! Heck, add a few more
degree's and I could have taken off my coat and did a jig.
I loved these logs! I found a new home for them and I can
get all warm and cuddly all over.

I went and read through the literature and checked out
the web site for I was curious on why these seemed so warm.
I have used Duraflame many times and though they were my
preferred brand anyways, I don't remember them being this
hot, really, there is that much of a difference. What I found
out was they are specially formatted to burn solid and are
stacked to give off a more "real" appearance.
They even hit details like the charred edges and ashy-ness of a
real log.Just by the way they are built they give off 50% more
BTU then a normal log. Factor in both the regualr Duraflame
and the super awesome new and my favorite choice Stax, burn
cleaner and are greener and give off less emissions then regular
old wood and are made from 100% renewable resources to start with.
No cutting down a forest to heat your home. Lets see here, no
hard work obtaining the wood. No storage issues and they are so
affordable. No wood shake and mess all over your home. They
burn brighter, longer and hotter and are green and earthfriendly to boot!

Hey there, while you are here don't forget to enter
my Costumes for Less and Happy Baby Food Contests!

YUM food! Michelle Loves to eat and it shows on my
hips. I have been trying to lose the last 20 pounds of
Baby weight I put on with Rowan for 6 months now and
I am just not making any headway at all. I started out
with a Bang and lost 70 in less then a month then I
stalled out and can't lose another ounce. It is because
I love to eat and do it often, um, all day, and every
day. Just a munch munch munch away. One person
in this house who's food is pretty safe from my constant
snacking is Rowan. Have you seen baby food? YUCK!
I can't believe most kids will even allow you to put it
in their mouths. Now I will admit that a few things,
the desserts mostly, smell pretty good and I have tasted
a finger or two but the main courses, yikes, too nasty to
even think about. The combinations alone are enough
to make it hard for me to even feed her without a Chuck
the Yuck bag nearby. Now I am not a fanatic that has
to eat off a plate where no food touches the other and
don't have issues like that but it is just some of the choices
I see them toss into a jar of baby food. How are our kids
going to learn to eat healthy and well when we don't offer
them the foods we are going to eat in real life? I don't
understand how I am supposed to offer Rowan healthy foods
when she is a little older when I am shoving junk in her
little body now. Let's be real here, most food is an acquired
taste and if we acquire the taste for garbage first that is
what we are going to want to eat later. Andrew was
born before the Organic craze and there were not many options
out there but I still made sure to have plenty of fresh foods
and lots of options available to him at home. By 3 years
of age he was eating Calamari and every kind of vegetable
out there and would pick Grapes over Chips every time you
gave him the choice. Now he is 16 and yes, the last 5 years
since he started Jr High he has slipped into junk food but he
still often asks for food other kids would push off their
plates and whatever foods out there you are thinking no
way a child would eat, he has and loves it! With Rowan
I have noticed a lot of healthy items available right at
a retail store but have not noticed many that look
like something I would want to even eat let alone feed
to her.

Then I got the chance to do a review for Happy Baby. Here
is an Organic Food I can get behind and when I say Organic
I mean FRESH Organic and not just a brand that slaps the
label on the Bottle and puts them on a shelf. Their baby
food is just like something you would make in your own
kitchen and instead of adding a ton of preservative to keep
it on the retail shelves longer they freeze it so when you heat
and eat you know your Baby is getting a food that comes
right from a kitchen to you. You do not get fresher then
that! Even their Baby Cereal is fresh and tasty for they
take natural grains and no genetically engineered ingredients
and the only thing they do add is DHA that is spectacular for
eye and brain development and recommended by doctors
everywhere. Even their snacks are ones you can feed your
little bundle without stressing that you are doing the right
thing. These are PERFECT for me because Rowan is at that
age and so determined to feed herself she fights me every
step of the way. I end up giving in an letting her have a
cracker or something only to watch her shove it in and
almost choke for she just isn't old enough. The Organic
Puffs from Happy Baby melt in her mouth so she doesn't
end up with too much food in her little mouth and I can
let her eat without trying to pry everything she stuffs
in right back out and breath a sigh of relief. They are made
with Whole Grains and come in 3 flavors to add a little
variety to a Baby's limited diet selections and again, the only
thing they add is extra vitamins and minerals. Even the
packaging is green! The part I like best is they not only
have Apple and Banana Puffs we know our kids will
like they also have Green Puffs that will sneak in some veggies
and she just thinks she is enjoying a treat!

Now when looking for a sweet treat I have now fell in love
with the Happy Melts. These are the only Freeze Dried Yogurt
snacks out there and offer all the yummy goodness of yogurt
in a finger sized snack they can pop in their mouth and go.
They are low in everything but flavor and also add what should
be Happy Baby's trademark of added probiotics to make
sure she not only enjoys what she eats she gets super
healthy perks too! Organics really did just get better. Now for
meal time Happy Baby has Happy Bites and instead of the
Yuck I have been, or now HAD been feeding her these are
complete yummy balanced meals in handheld sizes and have
some really great flavors and some hidden veggies so Mom
can smile when she enjoys it and know it is super good for
her! Now we all know kids love Mac and Cheese and Chicken
Bites but these also come in Salmon and Vegi Tots because
like I told you before what you feed your kids when they are
little will reflect in their eating habits later. Happy Tot also
has Salba, natures super grain and comes in handy pouches
that not only make eating on the run easy as pie, storage
at home just got a lot more simple too. Plus remember
the nasty combos I told you about, well you are not going to
find that here. With meals such as Green Beans, Pears and
Peas and Banana, Peach, Prunes and Coconut, no more
Chuck the Yuck bags at my elbow. I have a hard time not
grabbing a spoon and digging in myself!

Happy Baby also has a book to help Mom and Dad
with feeding Jr and making the right choices. It is all
inclusive and tells you tips and offers advice on when
to feed baby this and what time is best to introduce that
and perfect for not only first time Moms and Dads but
people unfamiliar with Organic foods. They also don't
stop at food and let you know all about wipes and diapers
and everything else that you would need to know. The book
is in such an easy to follow format even with my crazy
lifestyle and busy pace I can just flip it open, go right to
where I want to go and be on my way in a heartbeat. Um,
did I mention the book also have well over 100 bucks in
coupons right in the back. Now there is a way to not
only get started on the path to a great wholesome
Organic life but save some cash too! This is a must have
for parents and perfect for cluing you in on what is
the perfect time to feed baby foods you had questions
about! Happy Baby in general offers everything Moms
and Dads need for their little one and all of their products
are not only super fresh and yummy but packed with
Vitamins and Nutrients you just can't find elsewhere. I
am super pleased that I got a chance to do a review for
these guys for I had not heard of them before this and
might have missed a super chance to feed Rowan right
and now I get to chuck those Yuckiest foods I have
been feeding her right into the trash where they belong!

Hey there, while you are here don't forget to enter

When looking at baby care items it is so hard to
know what to get and make the right choices. You
are just undated with options and you just can't
drive your pediatrician insane with phone calls for
over the counter items like chest rubs and soaps
and baby oils and powders. They would pretty
much think you are nuts if you called them at
8 PM and asked, "Hey there doctor so and so, I am
looking at the 300 brands of Baby shampoo and I
am not sure what kind to buy. Should I got with No
More Tears or is the is the Aveeno better?" Not only
would you get a bill in the mail, chances are they would
hang up on you too! Over the counter items are the one
thing we as parents have to figure out ourselves. Now
Doctor so and so will let you know when to use Tylenol
and if a pain reliever is even needed but diaper ointments
and lotions, we are on our own. It is enough to drive you
mad too! One thing I am very thankful for is with Rowan
I have the organic option where as with Andrew I didn't.

but I now face the decision of whittling down one brand
