HUGG A PLANET Review and Contest
I never told you guys I grew up in a School Teachers
house. A Catholic School Teacher! For those of you
who were sentenced to Catholic School you know two
things.
1. It is head over tails a better education then any
public school in the country.
2. There are no children.
A Catholic School does not allow a child to be a child,
first and foremost a child is a student and expected
to behave that way. To make matters worse for me
when I got home from school I was the test subject
for my Grandmothers next days lesson plan. Let's not
forget she had been doing it for 30 years by the time
I hit school so I was pretty sure she had it down pat
but it was her way to cram just a little more learning
time into my day. I was graded on my work before I
ever had a chance to turn it in. Feel a little sorry for
me right now don't ya?
Now what that left me with was a thirst for knowledge
and a desire to make it fun. When my son was little I had
the advantage to take a year off of my career at the Restaurant
and take a job managing an educational store. Most of
my check went to my discount and anything damaged and due
to be destroyed I grabbed. I was very fond of Thematic units,
those of you who are Teachers are shaking your heads right
now and those who are not are going, "Thematic huh?"
What it basically is would be a book that explores a subject
to death but clues you in on ways to teach it to that class
that is not so boring you put them to sleep. A example would
be if you are learning about Mexico you would have the
child create a Mayan Headpiece while eating a Taco.
It brings fun into education and that's what this next
product I got to review reminded me of.
I received a box today from Hugg-a-Planet with
a Mars Planet and an Earth Planet complete with
a moon inside. I could not stop laughing for it was
the cutest thing I have ever seen! That little Moon
had me in tears! BUT, it goes back to what I said
about making learning fun. Planets and the Solar
system were one of the few things that I had a
problem with my son when he was young. When
he was in school they had globes, even
talking ones he can relate to but children learn by
seeing and items they see everyday they absorb and
it sticks with them and what better way to learn about
our planet ( and that adorable little moon) then snuggling
up with it every day? John, who is a Geography and History
fanatic has Rowan all curled up on his lap pointing out
Oceans and Continents and where we live and where
relatives live and to my dismay where current events
on the World News are located at. I really could have
lived without my little girl knowing where some Rebels
are hiding out or a man had his whole family hostage but
he is enjoying spending time with her and by the time she
hits Pre-school friends will be referring to her as "Atlas" if
they keep up this rate! Plus if you ignore the fact that it is
educational she is really getting some great Daddy and Me
time in! I would buy a Semi of Hugg- a- Planets for that reason
alone!
Another great aspect of this is my son picked up
Mars on his own. Now he is 16 and I would not have
dreamed of asking a 16 year old BOY to help with this
review but it was sitting on the love seat when he got
home and he scooped it up. A half hour later he still had
it. You see, he is interested in Mars and other planets and
even tinkered with the idea of doing something for NASA
when he got out of High-School but you would never see
him pick up a book on that subject when a new Frank Miller
book could be out. This was right in front of him and he
couldn't help himself. I know for a fact if I leave that out
it will be more often in his hands then not when he is
watching TV. The more often its in his hands the more
often he is going to absorb some information. In fact
I know I am going to leave it out for there are a few of his
friends who could REALLY benefit from learning a little
something. ( UM, does Hugg-A- Planet make a manors
ball?) I also was impressed that he too snuggled with his
sister and read off facts and points of interest to her.
I know it was just a back handed way for him to see something
on the globe "HE" was interested in but if it gives him an
excuse to snuggle with his sister, more power to him.
All in all I was very impressed with the product, the
implications it held for my family and ( still giggling here)
the cuteness of it all. Family vote here is we are FANS!
Now for the even better part. Hugg-A-Planet has offered
to give a Earth Hugg-a Planet to one of my readers. All you have

About 15 years ago (I think) my son got a Hugg a planet from his grandmother. My two boys hugged the planet, slept on it, threw it around, kicked it, punched it, etc. It took a major beating, but it's still around! My favorite item is the Hugg America.

My daughter also attends a Catholic School. It is by far the best education in our city and she is entitled to be a child as well in the classroom. The education might be slightly rigid, but the schools ITBS tests is among the nations highest.
