Banana Grams Review and Giveaway!
Knock knock!
Who's there?
Banana!
Banana Who?
Banana Grams that's who!
Are you into the Family Game night craze! I am
and have been for years and I just love it! It started
when my son was little with the Ducky Game. You parents
know the one. Has all these little ducks that go around in
a circle and Quack and you have to clear them off. Well, it
started there for us but after a month of Quacking that
game had to go for I was seriously thinking of taking up
duck hunting for if I heard one more quack I was going to
scream! Even the annoying Quacking could not detract from
the fact I loved playing the game with my son and the
time we spent with the game was time we spent together
where I was not stressed over bills or thinking about dinner
or any of the zillion things on my to-do list I was thinking about
Ducks and my son and how great it was to just "Be" together
and enjoy each other.
That ducky game has evolved into Poker, Eucher
and some pretty serious games of Risk and Chess 16
years later and the competition can get pretty fierce.
What hasn't changed in all this time is the fact it still
gives me time to catch up on what is going on in his
life, forget my worries and enjoy the fact I can still
kick his butt!
YES! ( Spikes the Chess piece and dances around the
computer for a few minutes)
Okay, that off my chest I am always looking for
new games to play with him and with Rowan on
the way, ideas for her too that do not involve ducks!
We have found some trendy games here and there
that were a hit for a bit, like American Idol, Rachel and
Andrew loved that one but I think the part they loved
was watching their Dads get up and dance and make
a fool of themselves. Okay, I admit it, that was my favorite
part too for there is nothing like seeing a 40 something year
old man doing the snake. Please boys, you might break
a hip or I could wet myself from laughing too hard!
The subtle part here you missed is the fact our whole
family gets together for these nights. My sons dad, John
and his children from his previous marriage, and I all
are one big happy family on these occasions and have
more fun then I could ever tell you about playing
games! So when I find a new game that we can all
play it is really big news around here!
Meet Banana Grams!
Just the packaging is cute. The game comes in a Banana!
Really, no joke! The game pieces come packed in a Banana
shaped caring bag that instead of un-peeling you unzip. How
cute is that? I even love how they market them in a retail store
so if you go looking for your own after this review just look for
the Banana Tree for they will be hanging on a branch ready for
you to pick. I love it! Okay, its one of those spinners but with
all those Banana's on it I swear it looks like a tree!
I love the game too for it has all the elements a great
game should. It is fast paced, challenging, you can play with
two players or more so it is fun for the whole family, it appeals
( no pun intended) to a wide age group, you don't go blind by
watching 40 year old men wiggle around on the floor, and
it sneaks in a little education without the kids knowing!
Perfect! What they do is take scrabble like pieces and
change the rules. Everyone gets a set number of pieces and
you make your own words out of them and try to use all
the pieces. You can change your words as often as you like
so it keeps you thinking. The catch is when you use all your
pieces you draw from the center and the winner would be
the person who has all their tiles used in a "Real Word!"
( that is for my son after last nights game) and screams
Banana's. Sounds easy! It is! and lots of fun too!
John has proclaimed himself Crossword champion and
you think the king wouldn't come in last every time but
we have a blast putting him in his place. Not so good now
that you don't have your cheat books are ya John?
The thing I liked best about this game is you can
make it a fast game or a slow game just by changing the rules
or using any of the variations they offer. What we did to make
it fair for the younger ones is to say the High Schoolers and
Adults have to use 2 syllable words or better only and the Jr High
and Younger can use only one. That slowed us down a bit for
when you take "and", "was," "me," "cat," "dog," "John," "lost,"
and other words like that out of the equitation you really have to
think a bit more! Even King Crossword had some sweat beads
on the forehead for he was getting his bootie kicked by a
9 year old! This game went on the game shelf when we were
done next to the family favorites instead of in the closet
for it was voted awesome by everyone. I can see me playing
this with my Grand kids when I get old in like 50 years! I can't
wait to show them how I can still kick my son, their Dad's
butt!
